Erin Sonnier Bio & Mission
Erin entered into the practice of massage therapy naturally. At a very young age Erin remembers massaging the soreness from her Grand mom’s hands, which were stiff and inflamed from arthritis. It was always gratifying to be able to alleviate pain. After graduating high school Erin was in a car accident for which she received massage therapy, among other therapies, to recover. These experiences of giving and receiving healing touch gave her an understanding of the power massage holds. Her passion for this therapy led her to enroll in the Louisiana Institute of Massage Therapy. From there she became a Nationally Licensed Massage Therapist in 2001.
In 2002 she joined the United States Navy. While enlisted, she studied to become a translator, concentrating in the language of Persian Farsi, the native tongue of Iran. When she returned to civilian life, she quickly resumed her career as a massage therapist fully aware of the blessing of her original life's calling and purpose. For the past eleven years Erin has been on a path of transformation, deepening her practice of Massage and Bodywork Therapy, Yoga, Sacred Activism and Education. In 2006 Erin began her journey as a massage therapy instructor. She completed a workshop with Nancy Toner Weinberger and has assisted teachers and taught at various massage schools in the area. These experiences deepened her knowledge of the practical aspect or art of massage therapy, as well as the science of anatomy that is essential to understanding the body. In 2008 she took a workshop in the ancient art of Thai Massage, or "Nuat Boran". Robert Wootton became one of her most respected teachers and led her to her current style of practicing massage. The foundation of his teaching is that in order to heal the body, the mind and spirit must also be healed--they are not separate from the body.
Erin's personal philosophy is one of mind/body/spirit integration whether teaching or practicing massage. She believes this integration is essential: if one of these parts is neglected, true healing cannot occur within the body.
Following more deeply her passion for sacred activism, in 2009 she joined Off the Mat Into the World, a non-profit organization which aims to inspire individuals to become leaders within their communities. With the help of the local community, Erin raised funds and awareness for the children and families of Uganda--a war-torn nation. She continues to volunteer her time to causes, specifically causes focused on the suffering of children, animals and the environment.
In June 2011 Erin became certified in the Spirit of Learning Teacher Certification program for massage and movement therapists at the Body Therapy Institute in Siler City, North Carolina, taught by Carey Smith developer of The Center for Somatic Teacher Education. Filled with gratitude for this accomplishment, Erin hopes to continue inspiring others to use their own unique gifts to facilitate healing and peace out into the world.
Most recent, Erin took a leap of faith and moved across the world to Western Australia and currently practices massage and bodywork therapy in South Fremantle. She is also deeply involved with teaching, writing and most recent Erin awakened to the call of her soul to embark on a journey of self transformation through working with animals therapeutically, soul musicality and chakra healing, healing with crystals and the elemental realm of nature and angelic ascension channeling and readings.
Erin is honored to be published in The Poetry of Yoga Vol 2, A contemporary anthology with over 300+ yogi poets from 19 countries. From a very young age Erin has written poetry and feels it is the written language of the heart.
Here is a beautiful quote that inspires her daily: "Healing is embracing what is most feared; healing is opening what has been closed, softening what has hardened into obstruction, healing is learning to trust life." ~Jeanne Achterberg
